The solstice is right around the corner, marking the first official day of summer. With summer comes more sun, warmer days, outdoor festivals, farmers markets, flowy skirts, swimsuits, barbecues and pools.
We spend months eagerly preparing for summer’s arrival. We have our entire wardrobe ready months in advance, jam-pack our weekends full with barbecues and pool parties, fantasizing about the perfect tan.
Then all of a sudden it’s September, summer has come and gone and we’ve been so go-go-go that we can’t even remember what we did.
This year, rather than focusing on stacking your weekends full with fun summer activities or how to look your best in the new swimsuit you just bought or who’s going to throw the best pool party, let’s focus on what summer is really about. Let’s make this a summer to remember!
Think back to when you were a child and so excited to be on summer vacation, to be able to play in the sun all day with no school, no homework, no pressure. You were free.
Of course, most of us cannot take 3 full months off from life anymore, but we can channel our inner child and live the next few months carefree and happy.
This summer, I encourage every single one of you to slow down and really soak in all that summer has to offer. This is a time to relax, rejuvenate and just have fun. After all, the term “solstice” is derived from the Latin term solstitium – which contains the word sol (meaning “the sun”) and sistere (meaning “to make stand”). The way I interpret this, it means to stand still or slow your pace and enjoy the sunshine! Here are some ways to savor your summer months:
Summer is a break, it's a time to be free, to slow down and recharge. Nothing lasts forever, so slow down while you can. Summer will be gone before you know it, so take your time, enjoy it and cherish every moment.
