How To Celebrate International Women's Day

With International Women's Day coming up on March 8th, we want to share some insights into why we hold this day so close to our hearts and ways in which you can join in to celebrate women all over the world ā€” all of which are all virtual-friendly so you can get involved from the comforts of your own home!

This year's theme isĀ #ChooseToChallenge.
"A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.Ā We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.Ā From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge."
Let's come together, unite and uplift each other this Women's Day! For inspiration, we have shared 6 ways that you can celebrate:
  1. Host an online women's circle

With ZOOM becoming this year's social hub, you can get together with your nearest and dearest from the comforts of your home at any time. Hosting a women's circle allows you to invite friends, near or far, to join you in coming together to connect, share ideas and uplift each other. The best thing about it is that you can invite your sisters from all over the world! A time when distance does not matter and miles can't come between you.Ā

Why not choose a topic of interest related to women, of course, and host a Dharma Talk during this time. A discussion that sparks inspiration, knowledge, or wisdom based on women empowerment, achievements, and freedom ā€” a way to share insight and share your perspective on an interesting topic that you can all resonate with. Find inspiration from each other as you speak from the heart with your sacred sisters.Ā

You can also create an online community on your socials and invite soul sisters to join you. Social media can be a wonderful place to meet like-minded individuals who share similar interests and passions. Especially during these times, any kind of social interaction can make someoneā€™s day. So don't hesitate to reach out to newfound friends or other women you feel connected toĀ  ā€” it could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.Ā

"Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean." - Ryunosuke Satoro.

2. Warrior Women Flow

Nurture the mind, body, and soul by hopping on your mat and following a fierce warrior flow. Exploring a dynamic, soulful, and rejuvenating series to activate your strength, willpower, and courage. Bring your body into alignment with a few rounds of Sun Salutations to warm up before flowing through a series of:

Mountain Pose (Tadasana)

Warrior I (Virabhadrasana I)

Humble Warrior Pose (Baddha Virabhadrasana)

Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II)

Reverse Warrior (Viparita Virabhadrasana)

Warrior III (Virabhadrasana III)

Flow-through as many rounds as you wish. Follow your intuition to harmonize the mind, body, and soul in sweet serenity.Ā

3. Goddess Meditation

Take some time to venture within, to discover your inner Goddess.Ā

In honor of International Women's Day, we have chosen guidance from Saraswati, the Hindu Goddess of intuition, creativity, and wisdom. Tap into the Divine energy that exists within us all by calling on Goddess Saraswati during your meditation. Invoke feminine rhythm and reveal your most profound wisdom within by embodying her Goddess qualities.Ā

In Sanskrit, Saraswati rides a swan called Hamsa, meaning "I am that." You can recite the Hamsa mantra while tuning into the natural flow of your breath to access the field of silence. With every inhalation, listen for HAMĀ Ā and with SAĀ Ā with every exhalation. Follow this chant until you reach a state of relaxation, then embrace this oasis of tranquillity.Ā

4. Inspirational Women Quiz

Create a quiz that focuses on women's achievements, milestones in history, and awareness of equality to celebrate how far we have come. Is there a female figure that you look up to? Someone who inspires you and motivates you to live as your highest self. Add in some questions about her and include a variety of topics that everyone can enjoy. You could integrate questions based on movies that are directed by women or have a strong female lead, female musicians, artists, poets. We are graced by infinite talent from incredible, inspiring women all over the world. Let's take this time to appreciate them and bask in all their glory.

5. Virtual Book Club

Do you have an all-time favourite book that you have really connected with that's written by a female? Why not begin a little book club with your girls that you can carry on throughout lockdown. Choosing one book per month that you read individually, then come together at the end to discuss itā€”an excellent way to bond with your sisters and appreciate women writers.Ā

We love Rupi Kaur for her beautiful collection of poetry and her way with words. The Sun and Her Flowers takes you on aĀ journey of wilting, falling, rooting, rising, and blooming.

6. Giving back to women in need

There is no time like the present, and here at Daya, we believe in the importance of giving back. A way to give back this International Women's Day is by choosing a female charity that supports women in need by providing essential food, healthcare, and education to contribute to improving the lives of girls and women throughout the world.Ā

Our charity choice is theĀ Ā Fior Di Loto Foundation, a non-profit based in Pushkar, India, that supports girls living in the area by providing basics necessities to help these young women grow and evolve.Ā

Above all, we invite you to express gratitude for women all over the world. Today, and every day ā€” by spreading compassion and sharing empathy for one another.
Together, we rise.
Ā
Love,Ā
Your sisters at Daya x
